Sugarbush ski resort Vermont. 2 huge ski mountains 1 resort

Looking back down the old double to the top of Mt Ellen. I think there were about 10 high speed quads in all of New England then.

Old double chair line at Sugarbush
AHH Sugarbush ski resort in Vermont. One of my kids favorite Vermont ski areas. One of mine also. You have more variety than most mountains and one of the top snow receivers in the East. Never, I repeat Never take someone down Rumble if they are skiing in Jeans.

The Bush has some of the toughest terrain in the east however don't let that steer you away if you are not up to double diamonds. There are plenty of nice blue cruisers and some greens for the really new as evidenced by this trail map .

If you like the steeps, the trails in the CastleRock area on a powder day will give you outstanding expert skiing conditions. The lift is old and slow so the skier traffic is very limited in this section plus a lot of people are scared by the signs at the bottom of the chair and go the other way.

You have 2 options but are not restricted to one or the other since they are inter-connected via high speed quad and shuttle buses. Lincoln Peak "South" and Mount Ellen "North". Ellen usually doesn't get as crowded as South however the weather can be nastier and lifts more susceptible to wind holds.

There is not a ton of on mountain ski accommodations but there are numerous place to stay in Mad River valley with easy access to both Sugarbush peaks.

Not the easiest place to get to but in my opinion worth the ride. Directions to Sugarbush Ski Resort Vermont

I am a little dissappointed that lift ticket prices have surpassed the $80 mark for weekends. It will be interesting to see the skier traffic numbers for the the higher priced resorts this year. I am sure they have done the math on margin vs. volume. I will still pay it as The Bush is one of the best east coast ski resorts.

The guys with John Egan. If you ever see him around say hi. He is a great guy. And look at the size of his boards!

Kids with John Egan at Sugarbush

During the winter of 07 my family and I stayed right at the Bush for 10 days. We skied and rode other places but mostly back and forth between north and south. My younger son , 7 and a half at the time did John Egans adventure camp for the week I don't think that kid has ever had a better time in his life.
