Mad River Glen You've seen the bumper sticker
Wait a minute. I thought boarders couldn't do MRG? Secret is they just can't get on the lifts.
It is true. Mad River Glen is not like other Vermont ski resorts or really any others in New England.
Have you ever had your thighs burning up so bad but you could not find a trail that wasn't completely bumped up?
No rest for you!
Last time I was here the squares were like double diamonds at other ski areas.
I had to quit around 2:00-I didn't have to but I got thirsty! No I won't lie, I had to.
I tore it up the 2 days prior over at Sugarbush and my body was toast.
It was killing me because the skiing conditions were unbelievable.
It was right after the big Valentines Day storm in 07. The local brews tasted really good!
Definitely one of the best ski mountains in New England but not for the casual recreational skier unless you plan on becoming a much more aggressive skier in the near future.
If you bring beginners they will get better really quick.
I recommend a lesson as the learning area is well separated and uncrowded. See the layout on this trail map.
Don't let the reputation scare you away because you have somebody with you that needs to learn to ski.
They will be in excellent hands with the mad River Glen ski school.
Think about it. If you want the inexperienced to get good quick, can you think of a better ski mountain?
If you have snow boarders with your group they can have plenty of fun right up the street at Sugarbush.
Sorry riders. Don't consider it punishment. The Bush is just fine.
I dropped my riding son off at 9:00 at Mount Ellen and met him back at the lodge at 4:00 no problem.
The area is not the most easily accessable for most travelers (directions) but most definitely worth the ride.
The Mad River valley is loaded with ski houses and other accomodations so vacation packages are abundant.
Great deals for Mad River Lodging
One thing that I really appreciate is the they have been able to keep the Mad River Glen lift tickets under $70 even for peak and holiday days. You don't get that at most of the other ski resorts in Vermont or the rest of New England .
So quit being scared and get up here this year!
