Hermon Mountain Ski Area in Bangor's backyardHermon Mountain Ski Area is another example of a backyard ski area. These are not resort destinations but make an excellent local hangout. I remember going to some of the small ski areas when I was a kid and probably went up and down a hundred times a day. If you live in the area, make sure you go get in some runs or better yet drop off the kids and go run some errands. Get them ready for a trip to one of the excellent large Maine Ski Areas. Your kids will love you for it. These local areas are usually excellent training grounds for the local school ski teams. All in all, I think the 30 dollars spent for for a day at a small resort is money much better spent than if the money was spent on the newest video game. Get outside and ski!
