The Connecticut Ski Areas give Southern New Englanders some good options for hitting the slopesThe Connecticut Ski Areas often get overlooked for the ski mountains in New York, Western Mass and Northern New England. They are what I call "geographically challenged" in that they are the most southern places to ski in New England. The options for skiing in Connecticut are limited in comparison to the mega-resorts up north but I will say the same thing I say about some of the ski areas in Southern New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. Smaller mountains in your backyard are great places to go when you don't have the time and/or money for a long ski vacation. There are four major choices of ski areas in CT. Mt Southington, Mohawk Mountain, Ski Sundown, and Woodbury Ski Area. None of these CT ski areas are going to scare any seasoned skiers. That is not the goal and they don't have the size and and resort facilities of the resorts up North. So if you are now asking why you should go or not go to any of these places for skiing Connecticut the answer is depending on where you live and how much time you have. I bring my kids to the smaller hills in Massachusetts and they have a blast. How many times do you drop huge cash on a vacation and the kids spend the entire day in a park or hitting the same part of the mountain over and over again anyway? Many of the smaller ski areas in New England also make pretty decent parks to attract the locals. I don't know about you but if I am going to drop $50 on my kid to do something, I would rather give them a day on the slopes than sitting in front of a TV playing a video game. So get on out and ski or ride one of the Connecticut Ski Areas.
