Burke Mountain is a hidden gem, probably not for long

They never get enough. Sledding after tearing it up all day. My wife and I get the blender going!

Burke Mountain is absolutely one of the best Vermont ski resorts. No doubt about it. I have had some of my best family ski vacations at this somewhat unknown resort. I have also had some incredible days skiing here with friends when there were no kids allowed.

For some reason the ski resort reviews skip this Northeast Kingdom gem and focus on some of the more well known Vermont ski areas. No problem with me. Looking at the trail map and mountain statistics you might think that this area doesn't have a lot to offer. To the contrary, the trails are uncrowded and some of the squares would be black diamonds at the "other resorts".

The layout of the mountain is outstanding whether you are skiing with a large group or getting in some turns by yourself.

This mountain puts out some excellent ski racers as it is the home to Burke Mountain Academy. I would have loved to had skiing in my high school curriculum.

The area is not loaded with a million condos and there is not a ton of on mountain lodging. I think this may be one reason why when you go here, you have plenty of room on the slopes and no lines. I also think it avoids crowds because people think it is too far. Minutes off of I91 just North of St Johnsbury, the location is a pretty easy ride from Boston or Hartford. Lift ticket prices are average for Vermont and you absolutely get what you pay for.

The beginner area and expert slopes are well segregated making the Mountain an excellent place for both types of skiers.

Mother Nature is generous to this region when it comes to snowfall and keeping what has fallen around for a while.

Nightlife is lacking but if you are more interested in quality terrain and conditions than partying, this outstanding Vermont ski mountain will deliver.
